Measure & Verification

Energy Measurement & Verification

Measurement and Verification (M&V) quantifies energy savings from efficiency measures in commercial and industrial buildings, ensuring projects meet expected benefits and provide accurate data.

The process includes:

  1. Planning and Baseline Development: Set goals and create an energy usage profile using historical data.
  2. Implementation: Apply and monitor energy-saving measures.
  3. Measurement: Collect post-implementation energy data with meters & sensors and track influencing factors like weather and occupancy.
  4. Verification: Compare post-implementation data to baseline, adjusting for external factors.
  5. Reporting: Document results and discrepancies, often verified by a third party.
  6. Continuous Improvement: Review and adjust measures, and plan for ongoing monitoring.

Protocols like IPMVP, ASHRAE guidelines, and ESCO standards guide the process, focusing on accuracy, cost-benefit balance, and stakeholder communication.
